About Us
What is the Academy?
The Hodgman Hennis Academy is a community-driven, player-focused tennis academy. It is committed to providing its students (players) with the essential tools, knowledge, and training to encourage all players to reach their fullest potential. Research overwhelmingly supports the positive impacts that tennis has on a player’s physical health, mental well-being, cognitive skills, and social development. The HTA aims to share its passion for tennis with local families and all tennis enthusiasts, despite their income or prior tennis experience. The HTA believes that tennis is a sport for life, enjoyed by many and loved by all who get the chance to be involved. We believe in fostering a love for tennis while developing the skills, discipline, and sportsmanship that lead to lifelong success both on and off the court.
Our Impact
At Hodgman Tennis Academy, our mission is to inspire and develop the next generation of tennis players by providing top-tier coaching, state-of-the-art facilities, and a supportive, inclusive environment. We are committed to helping each student achieve their personal best, regardless of their starting point.

The Hodgman Legacy
The Hodgman Tennis Academy continues the rich legacy of Dr. A. B. (Bert) Hodgman, whose passion for tennis shaped generations of champions. From founding the Hodgman Girls program in Kalamazoo to pioneering indoor tennis facilities and junior development programs, his influence extended far beyond Michigan. His daughter, Susan Hodgman Anawalt, and many of his students achieved national No. 1 rankings, solidifying the Hodgman name in tennis history. Even after retiring, Dr. Hodgman continued coaching, ensuring his impact lived on. The Hodgman Tennis Academy carries forward this tradition, building on decades of excellence to inspire the next generation of players.
